"...This is a guide to 16 scenic waterfalls in Southwestern North Carolina, including areas of the Nantahala National Forest, Pisgah National Forest and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We've also included a waterfalls map to help you get there...."

Land of Waterfalls
"... With 250 waterfalls and miles of trails and roads that you can explore on foot or by horse, bike or car, a trip to Transylvania will refresh your senses like nowhere else. Sliding Rock Falls...

Linville Falls
".... is located on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Trails lead to views of both the upper and lower falls. Forests offer virgin hemlock mixed with other familiar trees such as white pine, oaks, hickory, and birch. A colorful and varied display of wildflowers decorates the trails in the spring. Waterfalls at Dupont State Forest

"....Bridal Veil Falls is perhaps the most unique falls in the State Forest, with a 4' tall overhanging ledge on the upper section, and a long, shallow whitewater incline along the lower section. Access to Bridal Veil requires a longer hike or ride than other falls...." CLICK HERE for five other Dupont falls... including Triple Falls (see below)

Great Smoky Mountain National Park Waterfalls "... Every year over 200,000 visitors hike well-worn trails to view Grotto, Laurel, Abrams, Rainbow, and other popular waterfalls in the park. Large waterfalls attract the crowds, but smaller cascades and falls can be found on nearly every river and stream in the park. The Great Smoky Mountains abound with the two ingredients essential for waterfalls—ample rainfall and an elevation gradient. In the Smokies high country, over 85” of rain falls on average each year. During wet years, peaks like Mt. Le Conte and Clingmans Dome receive over eight feet of rain. This abundant rainfall trickles and rushes down the mountain sides, from high elevation to low, sometimes dropping more than a mile in elevation from the high peaks to the foothills at the park’s boundary...."
