Discover the Bliss of Organic Gardening
".... the perfect introduction to the permaculture revolution. Flores documents how we've become enslaved by a fossil fuel-based food chain and a consumer culture run amuck, but if the "peak oil" experts prove to be right, our industrialized food system and wasteful way of life will be unsustainable. In a post-petroleum era, people who know how to grow their own produce are going to be very popular...."
"... As someone who has had the good fortune to actually visit the Dillon
garden (albeit pre-canal), I can recommend this book highly. Helen
Dillon is a down-to-earth artist who makes art in four dimensions, the
fourth dimension being time--and this book covers the entire practical
gardening spectrum, from soil basics to complicated aesthetic decisions
on color and texture and taste....."
The Organic Manual "...explains in detail what to do instead of using chemicals. He tells
readers how to go green. The book starts with advice on how to stop
using toxic chemicals, pesticides, and synthetic fertilizers and
explains the practical alternatives that we can utilize...."
Four Season Harvest ".... book is a delight--an earnest guide written with an impish sense of humor. It will refresh anyone who wants to get the most from a vegetable garden yet doesn't want to devote too much time and energy to the process.... a book full of valuable information on how to harvest fresh vegetables and salad ingredients literally year-round--yet without an expensive greenhouse or indoor light garden set-up. Coleman combines succession planting (small sowings three or more times, rather than one big endeavor) with cold-frame growing in the winter months. He includes how-tos for building simple cold-frames..."
Earth Sheltered Solar Greenhouse Book '... essential reading for anyone looking to extend their growing season...." "... focuses on simple methods and materials ... Interesting and important ... humorous ... highly inspiring...."
"...This is a book that makes sense. First, the author inlists us to
understand why things happen as they do, i.e. certain insects are drawn
to certain plants etc., and then how to naturally deal with that so as
not to pollute the earth, kill unecessarily. For me this approach
results in making gardening much less a fight and it's gratifying to
know you're helping the natural balance of things...."
