To create Community Participation in the site by having Volunteer Editors for each of the 140+ topics to be covered in the site providing new and relevant information on an ongoing basis. To create an easy way for residents and visitors to find out about and participate in all of the many delightful activities and entertainments Asheville has to offer.... by putting a variety of CALENDARS into one easy to access page. To provide a website that has so much valuable and relevant information that over time it becomes the authority for anyone wanting to know anything about the Asheville area. Other sites will naturally want to link to us ... which will in turn give us a higher rating in search engines like Google... which will in turn give all of the businesses and activities listed and featured in AshevilleBliss.com increasingly greater exposure. Truly a win/win/win situation! To provide a venue for anyone who wants to promote their business or activity a dignified and believable way for them to do so, via purchased 'advertorials' similar to those bordered textboxes with photos which you see sprinkled throughout this site. To provide a free "super-concierge service" to the entire hospitality industry in Western North Carolina -- giving their prospective guests lots of reasons to come to the Asheville area... and once they arrive, to stay a little longer and come back more often. To make it easy for Asheville businesses such as hotels and B&B's who depend upon attracting out-of-town visitors, or companies who wish to attract high-level employees to this area, to have easy and inexpensive access to a constantly updated and CUSTOMIZED (they get to feature ONLY those pages they choose and leave out any competition or anything which might not reflect their values) version of AshevilleBliss.com which can be integrated with their website for a small monthly fee. From Rolf Potts' Vagabonding blog: I've never been one of those uptight literary types who thinks that you have to have actually read a book in order to recommend it to others. So I feel no trepidation in suggesting Eric Weiner's new travelogue-slash-memoir The Geography of Bliss: One Grump's Search for the Happiest Places in the World Part foreign affairs discourse, part humor, and part twisted self-help guide, The Geography of Bliss takes the reader from America to Iceland to India in search of happiness, or, in the crabby author's case, moments of "un-unhappiness." The book uses a beguiling mixture of travel, psychology, science and humor to investigate not what happiness is, but where it is. Are people in Switzerland happier because it is the most democratic country in the world? Do citizens of Singapore benefit psychologically by having their options limited by the government? Is the King of Bhutan a visionary for his initiative to calculate Gross National Happiness? Why is Asheville, North Carolina so damn happy? With engaging wit and surprising insights, Eric Weiner answers those questions and many others, offering travelers of all moods some interesting new ideas for sunnier destinations and dispositions. In the imaginary Netflix queue of books-that-I'm-planning-to-read, this one has just jumped to the top. By the way, why has no one started a Netflix for books? This question, and many more, I'll leave for another day. |
